Quicken Loans National - Fantasy Picks - Presented by DraftKings

This week the PGA Tour makes it’s stop at the Quicken Loans National event. Played at Congressional Country Club on even years, this year it will be held for the first time at the prestigious Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, located on Virginia’s Lake Manassas.

Tiger Woods returns to competition this week after missing the cut at the Open Championship. This season was the first in Tiger’s career that he missed cuts in both the U.S. Open and Open Championships. Obviously Tiger wants to play well every week, but he has added motivation in the fact that this tournament is his own, supporting his Tiger Woods Foundation.

We’ve had the opportunity to witness some very entertaining golf lately. The past couple weeks have provided exciting battles out on the links with Zach Johnson’s Open Championship win, and Jason Day’s RBC Canadian Open victory being clinched on the final green. Here’s looking forward to another exciting week.

Here are my fantasy rankings for the week…..

  1. Justin Rose - Defending champion who has four top-10’s since the Masters, including a win at the Zurich Classic. Coming off a great week at the Open Championship two weeks ago (T6).

  2. Rickie Fowler - Since being named most overrated player on the PGA Tour back in May, has won The Players and The Scottish Open. T30 at Open Championship.

  3. Jimmy Walker - Has two wins this year, and has missed only one cut. Stands third in FedEx Cup points race. A steady player who despite his success often flies below the radar.

  4. Justin Thomas - With six top-10’s this season, the rookie continues to impress. Playing like a veteran which has lead to a his appearance on a lot of leaderboards.

  5. Danny Lee - Recent win at The Greenbrier, along with second place finish at The John Deere Classic. Missed the playoff in the latter after mistakenly picking his ball up thinking that they were playing lift, clean and place. Had a ton of hype early in his career, and his play of late has justified it.

  6. Tony Finau - Another rookie who continues to impress. The big bomber shot 65 on Sunday at the RBC Canadian Open to move up the leaderboard and finish T22. Has only missed one cut since mid-May.

  7. Shawn Stefani - Lost in playoff last year to Justin Rose. Has three top-10’s this season. Not a player who is constantly on leaderboards, but does have the game to win out on tour.

  8. Johnson Wagner - Over the last two weeks, has finished T10 at the Barbasol Championship and T18 at the RBC Canadian Open.

  9. Ollie Schniederjans - Has impressed over the past couple of weeks as he makes the transition from amateur golf to the professional ranks. Looking to make enough money to keep his card. Will be difficult to do, but either way has been gaining some very valuable experiences competing at a high level. Finished T22 at last week’s RBC Canadian Open and a T12 finish the previous week at the Open Championship.

  10. Will Wilcox - Finished runner-up at the Barbasol Championship two weeks ago. Withdrew from the RBC Canadian Open as a result of a wrist injury suffered during that performance. Expected to compete this week, but injury could potentially hinder his play.

Sleeper Picks

  1. Jim Herman - Finished T22 last week. Performed better than this final position leads us to believe. Shot second round 75.

  2. Patrick Rogers - Has been playing some very inspired golf this season, earning conditional status. Has one top-10 and made 9 of 14 cuts.

  3. Adam Hadwin - The Canadian finished T7 in his national championship last week after playing the final three rounds in 14 under par.

Last week was one of my most exciting while playing on DraftKings. Both my teams made money, and I enjoyed my highest finish to date. I was glued to the action as I continued to check my updated standings throughout the week of play. For a mere $3 entry, I was able to enjoy the week’s Tour event on a whole different level. I’ve found that I am able to enjoy watching the tournament to a greater extent than I would if I wasn’t partaking in the DraftKings fantasy golf experience. I can cheer on my players completely free of stress. After all, even if my team tanks, I’m only out $3. I know I’ve said it before, but I will continue to...DraftKings makes following the PGA Tour a more enjoyable and overall entertaining experience.

Here’s a look at my teams for this week.

Starting Lineup

Justin Rose - $12,200

Danny Lee - $9,100

Johnson Wagner - $8,700

Ollie Schniederjans - $7,700

Martin Flores - $6,300

Jim Herman - $5,900

Alternate Lineup

Jimmy Walker - $11,000

Justin Thomas - $10,000

Tony Finau - $9,800

Bryce Molder - $6,900

Steve Wheatcroft - $6,300

K.J. Choi - $5,900

Anything can happen in golf, and therefore, results are always difficult to predict. My strategy the last couple weeks has been to take the higher-ranked players and then try my luck with a few lower-ranked golfers. My reasoning is that I find it enhances my odds of picking a money-making team. The higher ranked players rarely miss cuts, and often finish high. That means that I’m really only having to take big chances on 2-3 players. It’s worked in the past, so here’s to hoping it continues in the future.
