Australian Open - Round 2 Recap
South Korean Jin Young Ko has continued to dominate the ISPS Handa Australian Women’s Open at Kooyonga Golf Club.
Ko teed off early this morning and posted a 3-under 69 to take her total to 10-under at the halfway point following a 7-under 65 yesterday.
Little-known American Emma Talley is in second on 7-under following another sub-70 round in the South Australian capital Adelaide.
Brooke Henderson finished her second round with three consecutive bogeys for a 4-over total to miss the cut by one shot.
Canadians Alena Sharp (+6) and Anne-Catherine Tanguay (+10) also missed the cut.
It was Henderson’s first missed cut in an LPGA tournament in her last 13 starts.
Jiyai Shin is tied for third with Sun Young Yoo at 6-under while Hyejin Choi is in a shot back on 4-under making it four South Koreans in the top six.
Jin Young Ko had five birdies and two bogeys in her round. The 22-year-old said her mental strength and putting were the keys to her round today.
She said she felt comfortable being in the lead and was enjoying playing on the more open, faster Australian-style course.
“I have won wire to wire before so I know I can,” she said.
“I like this course style – Korean courses more long hit and narrow … but here is wider, so stress is less.”
Players have praised the quality of the Kooyonga course in the South Australian capital Adelaide, saying it has some of the best quality fairways they have ever seen.
