Although it's got a new title sponsor (formerly the Norther Trust Open), the venue remains the same and so does the epic field of golfers. The Genesis Open kicks off this week from Riviera Country Club, a track that typically favors the longer hitters.
There's a slew of past champions in this weeks 144 player field including Bubba Watson, Adam Scott, James Hahn and Phil Mickelson. Always close on the winners heals though has been Dustin Johnson, finishing running up on multiple occasions, he'll undoubtedly be looking change history this week. Let's take a look at some of the players we're expecting to bring their best this week.
Dustin Johnson - Coming off a great week at Pebble Beach, this course seems to suite DJ's game very well. He's accumulated a handful of top 5 finishes in recent years although has yet to find the top of the podium. That could change this week.
Adam Scott - Always a consistent threat at any event, especially at Riviera. Scott is another player who's had success here, which bodes well for his play of late. Only one Tour start so far in 2017, which landed him a top 10 finish.
Hideki Matsuyama - A machine so far this season, 5/5 of cuts made including 3 top 10s and 2 wins. Finished T11 here last year, and has never missed a cut in 3 appearances.
Jordan Spieth - Hot off a win at Pebble Beach, where he practically coasted through the final round, Spieth will be looking to redeem himself at Riviera where he failed to make the cut last year with a poor opening round.
Jason Day - The #1 golfer in the world will be looking to keep that title this week. Finished T5 last week and will be looking to get keep his momentum going.
Tony Finau - Another long bomber off the tee will be looking to use that to his advantage. Finau has a couple top 10 finishes already in 2017 and will to looking to add a third this week. Coming off a solid T23 in Pebble Beach, I think he can improve upon that at Riviera.
Bubba Watson - The defending champion doesn't seem to be getting the recognition this year he deserves. The course suits his game and I think he'll be in the running this week.
Adam Hadwin - I've enjoyed watching Hadwin play this year, where he's 4/4 of cuts made and one top 10 finish. Struggled on the closing round last week but still on pace for a great season. Had a solid performance here last year, where he finished T16.
Ryan Moore - 2/2 so far in cuts made this season including one top 10. Moore finished in 10th place here last season and will be once again looking to break the top 10.
Brendan Steele - Playing well as of late, the native South Californian will be ready for action this week for a hometown crowd. Has found success at this event in past years, and giving his current condition, I think we'll see another solid performance again.
Brandt Snedeker - Continues to chalk up the top 10 finishes while playing consistent golf. He's in prime shape to make a run at the title this week.
Jason Kokrak - Another bomber who had good success at this event. Although a little inconsistent of late, I think Kokrak could have a breakout week.
And now a look at my Draftkings picks...
